Nausikaa

Halifax, NS

Nausikaa is a deep psychedelic creature serving you mindful bass music that both invigorates and inspires. She is determined to effect you with sound and movement that grounds you into the roots of your purpose; uplifting and reviving people across dance floors. Largely influenced by early UK bass and trans-formative style psychedelic music, Nausikaa’s performances are shape shifting experiences pulling from a plethora of genres and emotions.

Able to wind it down, or go wild, Nausikaa is always genre-explorative incorporating tracks with flavours of moombahton, trap, dubstep, psy-dub, D&B, psytrance and more. Inspired by her travels throughout Latin America, and the political struggles of the people in many of those countries, her mixes always contain some sort of social narrative, whether vocally or through the mindfulness of the music chosen. Tracks by women and underrepresented artists are prevalent, as well as inspirational lyrics through many different tones and languages.

Nausikaa’s road to performing was a long and intricate one, consisting of social justice work in droves and across spectrums. She broke onto the festival scene as one of the main organizers of the only harm reduction crew east of Quebec (The Tea Hive Collective), and now travels from festival to festival setting up safe, chill-out spaces for festival attendees. In the past few years they have expanded, touring into the states and also setting up spaces and hosting workshops at high schools and other community events, spreading information around safe drug use and the radical act of care. Through caring for folks having tough experiences at festivals, she began to truly understand the importance of conscious bass music, mixes created with intention to open a space for reflection and exploration. Tying in her passion for sound and music as a universal language, she began learning the art of mixing in the summer of 2015. Nausikaa brings us back to the power of the low-end, of vigorous dancing, and of the community created on the dance floor.

Nausikaa may be a newbie to the DJ world, but her learning curve has been a steep one. She is already starting to produce, and has begun collaborating with other DJ’s around the Maritimes with plans to release an EP this upcoming fall. Her first summer tour now consists of 8 festival gigs, playing shows in Ontario, Quebec and all over the Maritimes.

In a world so focused on transcending and reaching one’s higher self at any cost, Nausikaa brings us back to our roots, to the dirt beneath our feet that connects us to the earth, and to each other.
