Acres and Acres

Halifax, NS

David Scholten and Kris Pope are not only seasoned music makers but are also very close friends, a characteristic that shines brightly whenever they perform. The band’s moody, minimalist style allows plenty of room for storytelling and proves there is an art to telling the truth. Their popular and fan favourite, “The Polar Bear Song”, tells about the plight of the polar bear from the perspective of future generations who live in a world without it. Other songs and lyrics touch on topics ranging from factory farming and advertising ethics, to falling in love and getting a puppy, all with insight, humour, and rare emotional honesty.

Their debut album ‘All Nations’ was nominated for Group Recording of the Year at the 2011 East Coast Music Awards! The album was recorded live off the floor in Halifax at the All Nations Church and features many local maritime artists like Amelia Curran, Rose Cousins, Don Brownrigg and The Ukeladies. (listen to the entire album here: www.aaacres.com) The album’s release was followed by 2 national tours, as well as many main stage performances at festivals like, Peterborough Folk Fest., Evolve Music Fest., Folly Fest., In the Dead of Winter, Sweetwater 905 Fest. (B.C.) and many more. Acres and Acres have been featured on CBC’s Atlantic Airwaves, Definitely Not the Opera, Deep Roots, Connections and have been special guests on CBC’s Main Street & CBC R3 in Vancouver. All Nations has charted all across Canada including CHRM (St. John’s) where it climbed up to #3.

Look for a new album from Acres and Acres in fall 2012!

“The Halifax roots duo brings you to one of those farms where the tractor is rusted, the hopes are slim and the neighbours are all inexplicably talented.” – Sara Elizabeth Taylor, BeatRoute Magazine, Calgary
