Nahko and Medicine for the People
Born from strife and intermingling identities; Nahko’s origins are a mix of Apache, Puerto Rican and Filipino cultures. When he took up the piano at age six, the unifying power of music entered his life and brought him harmony. Armed with his newfound talent, he set out to bridge the cultural gaps dividing his own psyche. He began producing a public, musical journal of his journey toward personal, spiritual, and communal healing, and thus Medicine for the People was born. As the pieces of his past fell into place, creating an image of diversity and connecting identities, Nahko began to explore his disparate past in song.
Nahko and Medicine for the People has toured with SOJA, internationally with Xavier Rudd, and performed at festivals including Electric Forest, Wakarusa, Outside Lands, Bali Spirit Festival (Indonesia), Healing Music Festival (Israel) and Byron Bay Bluesfest (AUS). The music is meant to be a connecter, drawing people and ideas and cultures together in surprising new ways.
