Crystal Kennedy is a minority in the Charlottetown music scene. She’s one of few— possibly the only—female DJ’s on PEI. From a young age her interest in music began to develop throughout the 1990’s while listening to hip-hop and electronic genres. Her career as a DJ / Producer was sparked in 2011 when she and some friends attended a Dubstep show. Kennedy’s transition from listener to DJ progressed quickly. She acquired a DAW and started making electronic music and putting out original tracks; thus the moniker “Ruby Booms” was adopted. Her sound is derived from bass-heavy genres, beginning with Dubstep, moved to Trap and now focuses on Juke, Jungle, Drum and Bass, with notes of Global vibes.
