FunkDub
Halifax, Nova Scotia
With roughly 15 years experience, countless gigs and a whole lot of beer Funkdub remains one of the most recognized names in house music on the East Coast of Canada. Funkdub (aka James Dobbin) made his name through a number of residencies with Halifax’s most prolific production companies including Slip Disc, Massive Productions and his own company Face the Music. Having played practically every dance music venue in Halifax and the Maritimes he was able to open for some of the biggest headliners in the world including Dj Dan, Bad Boy Bill, Richard Vission, John Aquaviva, and Derrick Carter which comprises a list that most would be envious of.
Inspired by the London Disco sounds of Horse Meat Disco and Brian Morrison his sound has evolved but not changed. Still mixing banging Chicago house and low end vocal goodness he may pull out a classic from the days of Electopolis or drop one of his very own remixes of Paul Simon.
These days James has focused most of his energy on growing his business Gummi Boutique in Calgary. Though his passion for House Music is undying he still packs them in on his monthly at Habitat with fellow East Coaster and close friend Jody Crowe. Still digging, still mixing and still loving music, when James plays he plays for himself. It just so happens he likes the same music you do. Disco Down!
