EviCtion

Halifax, NS

“I’ve been serious about music since I was a kid.” says Jeff Wilson, also known as EviCtion; a renegade electronic musician, producer & performer based out of Halifax, NS. “I used to listen to my mom’s old vinyl and play the Jimi Hendrix “Are You Experienced” album over, and over”.

When Jeff Wilson was in his funk, rock band Traffic Jam, fans could find him playing lead guitar and sporting a big curly afro at the young age of fifteen. Right around the same time he started playing the local bar circuit in and around Saint John, NB. “My parents used to drop me us off at bar gigs and pick us up at 2am!” His first professional release was an independently produced CD titled Traffic Jam “Funkacoholics Anonymous”, and at the age of only sixteen his music could be found in surf films that graced the screens at the Sundance Film Festival.

After attending Yamaha School of Music in Toronto, Jeff taught guitar at the Atlantica School of Music in Saint John, New Brunswick for a few years. He worked with Ole Records on the Canadian Idol Top 10 Tour traveling and playing lead guitar with Brandon Jones and Chad Doucette. After Graduating high school, Jeff then decided to attend St. Francis Xavier University to study jazz guitar full time. This is where his musical creativity morphed into what is now EviCtion.

Starting as a small time deejay, EviCtion’s productions soon propelled him into becoming a frontrunner in the east coast deejay scene. His unique style and ear for music made it easy for EviCtion to stand out among an ever-growing east coast deejay market. His punk attitude and aggressive approach to making music have helped EviCtion become one of Eastern Canada’s most in demand producer and deejays. He’s known for selling out shows of twenty-two hundred plus people in every city, town, club or festival in Atlantic Canada. As of late he’s expanding his musical reach to events like WEMF and local club circuits in Ontario, and as well as Quebec. Thousands of screaming fans are a testament to EviCtion’s talent and originality!

After finding his sound, which he describes as “Indie, Techno, and Electro”, EviCtion has been asked to share the stage with electro heavy weights like the Bloody Beetroots, Felguk, Lazy Rich, Andy’s iLL, and Vandalism, but he doesn’t stop there. He has also performed with eH! Team deejays; Team Canada DJ’s and DJ IIlo. He had the pleasure of opening for Scratch from the legendary Roots. In 2012 EviCtion traveled to Montreal, Quebec to open for disco heavy weights CLASSIXX. EviCtion has shown that his style is both versatile, marketable and he is able to adapt to most situations in the Canadian dance markets.

EviCtion’s productions have gained international recognition, thanks to his first releases on Audio Planet Recordings. His production skills got him chosen as a finalist in the 2010 Lollapalooza Remix Competition, which allowed him to remix for Tiga. Thanks to Sick Slaughterhouse Recordings, his “Hammer” EP featuring A Girl and A Gun released to critical acclaim at the beginning of 2011 with major producers like The Mastertrons (Dim Mak), B.Rich (Party Like Us), Monolythe (Big Alliance), and Jeff T (Interscope). His EP generated over forty thousand plays on SoundCloud in the first months of the release. His new tracks and remixes have been creating a lot of buzz in the blogosphere scene and a simple Google search can find his tracks on blogs from around the world.

2012 is the year of EviCtion. He plans to expand his brand Canada wide. With two EP releases due in 2012 and his first tour of Quebec complete in February, the rest of Canada waits to host an EviCtion party at their club, event or festival. EviCtion is becoming Canada’s secret weapon!
